Oil Palm Nursery

What we do in Nursery

Nursery stages and initial planting

Pre-nursery: Germinated seeds or tissue culture plantlets are planted in a protected, controlled environment to begin their growth.

Primary nursery: Seedlings are transplanted to larger polybags filled with a specific potting mix, usually a combination of topsoil, sand, and well-decomposed cattle manure.

Planting the sprout: The sprout should be planted cm deep in the centre of the bag, with the plumule (shoot) facing up and the radicle (root) facing down. Sprouts should be planted as soon as the radicle and plumule differentiate.

Ongoing maintenance and care

Watering: Seedlings require daily watering.

Fertilization: A fertilizer mixture is applied at different stages

Hardening: Once the seedlings are stable, they undergo a hardening process to gradually expose them to full sunlight, which is crucial for their survival when they are transplanted to the main field.

  • Culling: culling seedlings removed as per scientific.
